Tip for Developing or Updating Your Curriculum Map

August 29, 2011

Want a valuable and relatively painless way to develop your curriculum map? Try this.

Associate Professor of Biology Dr. Madhu Katti listed each of Biology’s learning outcomes. Then he attached a scale to each that indicates the extent to which the outcome is taught in each course. Next, IRAP turned this into an online survey using Google docs.  Dr. Katti then sent a link to the survey to all Biology faculty. They indicated which outcomes were taught in each of their courses and to what extent. The data were automatically collected in a spreadsheet. From there, the data could be easily aggregated to create the curriculum map. This map can be a rich source of information for faculty discussion of student learning and program requirements.
